85 Degree Peckin' Order

It was HOT today by western Washington standards. It peaked at 85 degrees 'round 3:00 p.m. and all the critters had to find a way to stay cool.

It was siesta time so some of them did what came naturally.....snoozed. Pete found a sunny spot among the buttercups and dust.

The yearling deer who's made himself at home plopped down in the cool shade under a huge cedar tree, just 20 feet from the back deck.

When the scorching rays sent the miniature horse herd to the barracks, it was obvious who ranked over who.

#1 would be Otis. He "owns" the mini shed. He allows #2 Quaker and #3 Raider to stick their heads in the shed, but the butts must roast in the sun. Pete, never to push himself around in a horse-eat-horse world, took the shade on the side of the shed. Little did the horses know, that shade included the breeze. Ahhhh, just another case of the Smart Ass playin' it cool.

That Pete is a smart one all right. Won't they all have some acclimating to do once they get here. Ahhh...but it's a dry heat. To which I always say, 'yeah, but so is a blast furnace.'

They are definitely samrter than us hoomans in many ways. For instance, do you think they would run around playing volleyball in 85 degree weather? Noooo.
